Currently they want playtesters and people to try out the game! The game is set in a mythological mega-continent where all mythological creatures and unusual fauna reported from time before time are real.
I am working on other artwork for the game done in a style designed to evoke folk artwork from the people and period, as well as “something that could have been drawn around the campfire by the survivors”. The gameplay is a mixture of classic dungeon delving TTRPG, and a city / civilization building concept similar to Minecraft, but for tabletop. The Discord serves as a hub for public worldwide events, and we hope it will grow into something many people play at home and also with the core group.
The map is based on a map of Pangia / Pangea and is one of many imagined ways that the world could fit together as one giant puzzle piece. That said, this is definitely more a fantasy map.
It is more of a fantasy illustration than something designed to be accurate and to scale. I think this layout was worked out for the Civilization game so I don’t know of its overall accuracy… to be honest I just used the layout my client, the game writer, requested I use and this isn’t a statement as to what we think is ‘real’ but just what we thought was aesthetically pleasing. I am no geologist so I would go elsewhere if you’re hoping to understand how Pangea worked and why it might look like this. The link will take you to Wikipedia where you can read all about the evolution of the continent, something I have not yet covered. Sorry. There’s an animation on Wikipedia that really makes the position of the actual continents make a lot more sense than my art will.
As our goal is not to evoke the modern world, the original borders are not maintained, and only a few hints exist as to what will come from this land. I kept some lakes and rivers but mostly I just made it up for the mountains and valleys and fill, keeping something approximate.
Much like I love when people use ‘flat earth’ or ‘hollow earth’ as a setting, I love when people use alternative earth.
I’ve even done a few other alternative earths…
Thank you for reading, humans of Earth.
